Athletics Australia and Little Athletics Australia have joined together to deliver the Cross County (XC) National Championships to be held in Adelaide, South Australia, Saturday 21 August – Sunday 22 August.

Athletes wishing to represent NSW will have several opportunities to compete in XC races across NSW and qualify to compete in Adelaide.

The top 10 athletes for each age group in the Under 14-Under 17 at the 2021 Athletics NSW XC Championships on 26 June at Willandra (Nowra) will be automatically selected into the NSW team (pending nomination and meeting eligibility criteria).

Please note age groups at the Athletics NSW Championships differ to Little Athletics Age Groups. LANSW Under 13 Athletes (born in 2008) will compete as Under 14 and so on. Full age groups are available on the selection policy.

The remaining six athletes will be selected based on performance(s) across the winter events from the NSW Sydney 10 (Sunday, 2 May), NSW Novice Cross Country Championships (Saturday, 22 May), NSW XC Relays (Saturday, 5 June), NSW XC Championships (Saturday, 26 June) and/or NSW Road Relays (Saturday, 10 July).

All athletes wishing to be selected in the NSW team for the 2021 Cross Country Championships must submit a nomination via the online portal. Nominations are open from Monday, June 28 9.00am and will close 9:00am Monday, July 19, 9.00am. There is no cost to nominate during this period.

2021 Athletics NSW Cross Country Championships

The 2021 Athletics NSW Cross Country Championships will serve as the main selection event for the 2021 XC National Championships. It is strongly recommended that any athlete wishing to have the opportunity to be selected in the NSW team to compete at the National XC Championships compete at this event.

The 2021 Athletics NSW XCChampionships will be held at Willandra, Nowra on 26 June 2021.

Little Athletics Cross Country Carnival

Little Athletics NSW is excited for athletes to have another opportunity to compete in XC this winter. The Cross Country Carnival will be held Sunday, 4 July in the Greater Sydney Area, venue TBC.

This is a fun event where the whole family can enjoy XC fun! Event distances and draft timetable is as follows:

·        10.00am – U7 Boys 800m

·        10.05am – U7 Girls 800m

·        10.10am – U8 Boys 800m

·        10.15am – U8 Girls 800m

·        10.25am – U9 Boys 1.5km & Multi Class U9/U10 Boys

·        10.30am – U9 Girls 1.5km & Multi Class U9/U10 Girls

·        10.45am – U10 Boys 1.5km

·        10.50am – U10 Girls 1.5km

·        11.05am – U11 Boys 2km & Multi-Class U11/U12 Boys

·        11.10am – U11 Girls 2km & Multi Class U11/U12 Girls

·        11.25am – U12 Boys 2km

·        11.30am – U12 Girls 2km

·        11.50am – U13 Boys 3km & Multi-Class U13/U14 Boys

·        11.55am – U13 Girls 3km & Multi Class U13/U14 Girls

·        12.10pm – U14 Boys 3km

·        12.15pm – U14 Girls 3km

·        12.30pm – U15 Boys 3km & Multi-Class U15/U17 Boys

·        12.35pm – U15 Girls 3km & Multi Class U15/U17 Girls

·        12.50pm – U17 Boys & Community 4km

·        1.05pm – U17 Girls & Community 4km

Medals will be awarded in all age/gender categories, with a goodie bag and certificate for all participants.

This is an opportunity to give Cross Country a go or get in some additional practice for other State Cross Country events.

 Please note this event will not count towards eligibility to represent NSW at the 2021 National Championships.

Joint XC State Championships

Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW will co-deliver the 2021 NSW XC Championships on 1 August 2021 at Dapto. Registrations will open the week commencing 5 July. Keep an eye on both Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW social media for more information in the coming weeks. This event is the official Cross Country State Championships.

The Joint XC State Championships is after the cut-off date for eligibility to represent NSW at the National Championships. However, this will be accepted to satisfy the selection criteria as the additional winter event required.
