Coaching Children 5-12: The Next Generation Workshop

This workshop incorporates the latest research on essential topics that are intrinsic in the coaching of children between the ages of 5 and 12. This is an exciting chance for you to reconsider the emphasis of your coaching and enhance the experience of your young participants. The material is delivered in a practical way to provide you with all of the innovative techniques and cutting-edge information you need to become a more effective coach.

Who is the workshop for?

The course is great for coaches, school teachers and other interested people from any sport who deliver sports activities to 5 to 12-year-olds.

This course is suitable for:

  • People with little or no athletics coaching experience
  • Accredited coaches of any level who work with the target age group.
  • School teachers
  • Little Athletics age managers
  • On Track Leaders

NOTE: Little Athletics NSW highly recommends this workshop as training for deliverers of the On Track program.

Time Commitment

3 hours attendance face-to-face (No pre-course work or reading required) 

Course Outcomes

To help you understand how your coaching fits into a much wider agenda than sport, you will:

  • Learn a mix of traditional and contemporary models of coaching based on the development of participants’ technical, tactical, physical, mental and social competencies.
  • Take a detailed look at the ‘C’ system of coaching to equip you with new tools to improve your soft and personal skills.
  • Be introduced to the principles of Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU).
  • Learn fun and interactive practical techniques for keeping children engaged to blend with the pioneering academic theory.

Participant Requirements

  • All participants must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of the workshop.
  • There are no other course prerequisites.
  • There is no exam, written or practical.
  • While physical participation in each of the activities is strongly encouraged, it is not compulsory.
  • Participants will need to wear clothing and footwear suitable for participating in the various activities.

Accreditation

This workshop is considered as professional development and therefore no formal accreditation is gained for attendance.
