Coles Little Athletics Australia is proud to announce the launch of the Coles Little Athletics Australia True Inclusion Project. The project, funded through the Department of Social Services and delivered in partnership with the University of Sunshine Coast aims to enhance competitive experiences and opportunities in the sport for children with a disability through support, resourcing and advocacy at a grassroots level.
The project will run until June 2023 and will be heavily focused on athlete-centred design, industry best practice and collaboration with the Little Athletics and disability communities. The announcement of the project also coincides with the launch of a national survey targeted at all areas of the Little Athletics and disability communities, to deeply understand the current landscape and history, with a view to shaping initiatives for the future.
In addition to the launch of the True Inclusion Project and survey, we are also incredibly excited to announce world champion and world record holding distance runner Jaryd Clifford as the Coles Little Athletics Australia True Inclusion Project Ambassador.
Coles Little Athletics Australia General Manager of Operations Andrew Johnston welcomed the appointment of Clifford saying “Having someone of Jaryd’s standing in not only the community but in the world of athletics, will help give this significant project the profile it needs to succeed. Jaryd, in addition to being a world class athlete, brings great insight into his own experiences in Little Athletics which will be invaluable.”
On his appointment, Jaryd Clifford said “I’m super excited to be a part of the project and it means a lot to be involved and cool to see so much work happening in inclusion. Genuine inclusion is not just about making it possible for athletes with a disability, but embracing diversity and celebrating individuals for who they are. When you’re surrounded by good people, anything is possible.”
