15-year-old Isaac Shaw from Albion Park LAC is one of the Little A’s travelling to Africa to take part in the Love Mercy Uganda trip later this year.
An enthusiastic middle-distance runner, Isaac enjoys partaking in cross-country events, partly inspiring his decision to compete at the Julius Achon Cross Country race in November.
“I started running when I was really young, and then just sort of lead on from there… I now run for Albion Park Little Athletics and Kembla Joggers,” said Shaw.
Isaac represented the Kembla Joggers at the XC Relays in Miranda on the weekend – his squad placed fifth in the U15 Boys 4x3km event, and he ran the impressive time of 10:31.
Having never been to Africa, Isaac is excited for the opportunity to help the less fortunate through his love of running – the farthest he had previously travelled from home was Fiji.
“Growing up in a country where my freedom to achieve my dreams and have access to pretty much anything I could want or need is an incredible blessing,” writes Shaw.
“I am so excited to have the privilege of being able to use my passion and gift of running to raise money, awareness and practical support to my friends in Uganda.
“Every child on the planet should be able to feel safe, supported and cared for.”
Isaac’s school and youth group are also supporting his fundraising by organising a BBQ and potentially a Trivia Night.
