At the Crystal Palace in Luna Park, achievements of individuals and groups in athletics were celebrated to commemorate another successful season for the sport.
There were plenty of Little A’s acknowledged, past and present, for their accomplishments and triumphs over the past 12 months.
After a stellar performance at the Australian Junior Combined Event Championships in Hobart earlier this year, North Rocks Carlingford LAC competitor Lily Tilt was rewarded the Junior Multi Award.
Tilt was the sole national champion for New South Wales at the event, and improved in six of her seven events from the NSW Championships.
The 14-year-old also placed tenth in the U15 Heptathlon at the recent Australian Little Athletics Championships in Hobart.
St George LAC member Lauren Carey also topped off a phenomenal summer after being presented with the Junior Cross Country Award.
The 2018/19 highlight for Carey was placing 16th at the Under 20 World Cross Country Championships in Denmark earlier this year – she was the highest placed U20 Australian woman at the event for ten years.
Plenty of former Little A’s also walked away with a trophy – Carley Thomas was awarded the Junior Middle Distance Award after a career-defining 12 months.
Thomas won two medals at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in Finland; silver in the 800m event and bronze in the 4x400m women’s relay.
The 18-year-old also placed fourth in the 800m event at Open National Championships in Sydney last month.
Thomas will be travelling to America later this year after earning a scholarship at the University of Washington.
The prestigious Nick Winter Memorial Award for Aspiring Triple Jumper was presented to former Peninsula LAC athlete Ryan Marshall.
16-year-old Marshall was the Australian U18 triple jump champion last month after reaching 14.73m at the National Champs in Sydney Olympic Park.
Australian U20 10,000m walk champion Oscar Tebbutt was also awarded the Junior Walks Award – the 17-year-old is a former Gosford LAC competitor.
