Tilt was the U16 Heptathlon Champion after scoring 159 points in the two-day event – New South Wales dominated her age group, with two of Lily’s teammates placing third and fourth.
Incredibly, Tilt improved in six of her seven events from the NSW Championships last month, crediting external support and additional training for her success.
“The improvement in my performance was due to the extra hours of training at the track with the help of my coach, Graham Garnett, as well as the support of my training partners inspiring and pushing me at each and every session,” said Tilt.
This result was just another achievement in a remarkable 2018/19 summer season for the North Rocks Carlingford LAC athlete – Tilt placed first at the State Combined Events Championships in early March after a dominant all-round performance in Dubbo.
At the State Track & Field Championships last month, Tilt was awarded the prestigious LANSW McDonald’s Scholarship which is awarded to promising young competitors from around the state.
Tilt will also be returning to Hobart in late April to represent NSW at the Australian Little Athletics Championships in the U15 Combined Events.
“My main goal in Hobart is to compete to the best of my ability – I will come up against some amazing athletes at ALAC who will definitely help me to do so,” said Tilt.
“I am also looking forward to the team environment associated with ALAC and hope to earn NSW as many points as possible.”
One of Lily’s primary aims is to improve in the heptathlon events, attributing correct technique as a key to success.
Off the track, Lily is a passionate footballer and she acknowledges the positive influence athletics has had on her gameplay.
“Doing athletics has definitely helped me with my speed, endurance and strength on the pitch,” said Tilt.
“I aim to stay in [athletics] for as long as possible – I would love to represent Australia at an International level.
“Even if I don’t, I will still always enjoy athletics.”
