It is with great sadness that Little Athletics NSW received the news of the passing of one of our longstanding Zone Coordinators, Russell Scott.
Russell’s love for Little Athletics started in the late 1970s when his children joined a local Little Athletics Centre, and his connection with the sport thrived from there.
He is a Life Member of Athletics Glen Innes, and a founding committee member of Glen Innes Little Athletics, having held the positions of President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Since 2014, Russell been the Zone Coordinator for the New England zone, and played an important role in the wider Region 1 community. His dedication to the development of athletics in New England saw Russell awarded Life Membership to the New England Zone Schools Sports Association and receive a Athletics NSW Merit Award.
As a Level III Coach and a Level II Official, Russell was involved in all areas of the sport, constantly looking for ways to improve himself and the sport he loved. He was also a member of Queensland Masters Athletics for over 20 years and the NSW Veterans Athletics Club.
Russell embodied the spirit of Little Athletics and will be sorely missed by all. There isn’t an athlete in New England who has not been impacted by Russell’s dedication to the sport.
Our sincere condolences go out to his wife, Dulcie, two sons and extended family and friends.
