To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day we caught up with LANSW athlete Lachlan Margetson and mum Kirsty.
Lachlan has been involved with Little Athletics since he was 4 years old (now 12), starting in the Tiny Tots program at Sutherland Little Athletics Club (SLAC). Over the years, Lachlan has participated in many gala days, school sport carnival, and Region and State Little Athletics Championships and most recently at the LANSW ‘HART Sport State Track and Field Championships’ where he competed in the U13-14 Boys Multi Class Shot Put (4th), Discus (3rd), 100m (6th) and 200m (6th).
While Lachlan gives all events on offer a go, his favourites are the throwing events and now attends training sessions several times a week. Over his time with Little Athletics Lachlan said he has had lots of fun and made lifelong friends. When talking with Lachlan’s mum, Kirsty, she commented how the support he receives to participate in Little Athletics (particurly from SLAC) has given him the confidence to try new things in many areas of his life.
