Little Athletics NSW would like to congratulate Kieren Briggs, a former Little Athletics NSW member and State Team representative, on being taken as Pick #34 in the National AFL Draft last month.
Briggs started his sporting journey with Little Athletics at North Rocks Carlingford Little Athletics Centre in U6’s, before moving to Parramatta Little Athletics Centre as an U10athlete where he stayed until he was 17.
In 2013, he was captain of the NSW team that won the overall point score at the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Canberra. He has also represented the NSW team in multiple Trans Tasman Championships, and has won a number of medals in throwing at State Championships Carnivals.
Briggs has been part of the GWS Academy since he was an U12 athlete and, like many Little Athletes, juggled both passions until he had to make some choices as an U17athlete.
His selection makes him just the second Western Sydney product to be drafted by the GIANTS.
“He was the All Australian ruckman and he’s from Western Sydney, so it was a pretty easy decision for us,” GIANTS National Recruiting Manager Adrian Caruso said.
“A super competitor who we believe will develop significantly once in our program full-time.”
Of the thousands of players in the mix, less than 100 are picked either as full draft picks or are rookie listed for a year. He joins Jake Stein, another former NSW Little Athlete, as a contracted player at the GIANTS, and looks forward to his future with the club he has supported since their establishment.
