The Department of Education – VET Programs for Secondary Students (VPSS) and Little Athletics NSW (LANSW) are working together to create a Sport Coaching Student Workplacement & Skill Development Partnership.
The aim of this partnership is to, through LANSW centres, provide opportunities for students currently studying their Certificate II or Certificate III in Sport Coaching for their HSC to meet their 35hr Workplacement requirement. In addition it will also allow them the opportunity to meet assessment requirements connected to the coaching and conducting event units they will be studying.
The aim is for the program to be in full swing by the beginning of the 2020-2021 Little Athletics summer season.
Benefits to Little Athletics Centres
In return it is expected that LANSW centres participating will benefit from students with experience in the sport coaching area being engaged in training nights and supporting the running of events throughout the year.
The students could potentially assist with:
- Conduct of events
- Age managing
- Officiating
- Tiny Tots
- On Track program
- Coaching
Student Requirements
- A completed student placement record (this will need to be signed by a member of the local LANSW Centre executive), providing insurance cover while student is in attendance at LANSW events. The Student Placement Record must record the range of dates, time and venues where the student participates.
- Provide notice of assessment requirement ahead of time to ensure activities are provided to enable third party evidence to be collected.
LANSW Centre Requirements
- Provide a detailed list of training nights & event opportunities occurring ahead of time to allow for organisation of student requirements.
- Provide an executive contact person who will sign workplacement journals and third party evidence requirements.
