Molly Croft is young girl from Dubbo, a budding sports star and passionate runner.
Unfortunately, on her twelfth birthday in 2018, Molly was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer, and urgently admitted to The Children’s Hospital Westmead for treatment.
What followed was a tough ten months for Molly and her family – 30 weeks of chemotherapy.
Without the accommodation at Ronald McDonald House Westmead, Molly’s family would have been separated, commuting from Dubbo and unable to provide daily support to twelve-year-old Molly.
Now, the inspirational young campaigner is hoping to raise $46,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities before July 30.
Molly said Ronald McDonald House Westmead gave her family a place to call home during her treatment.
“It has been so important for my family to be able to stay with me while I underwent treatment,” said Molly.
“Now I need help to pay it forward to help other kids like me,” said Molly.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney CEO Belinda Woolford said Molly’s campaign will have a tangible impact on people’s lives.
“[We are] committed to keeping families together to relieve stress at the toughest time in their lives,” said Woolford.
“Every year Ronald McDonald House Westmead helps over 1300 families; we need the community’s support to keep our house open for families.
“Molly’s campaign will enable families to stay at Ronald McDonald House Westmead to support each other during their most challenging journey.”
Molly’s dad recounts the importance of sport in her daughters’ development.
“When we were running all over the countryside so the girls could play sport, we didn’t realise each match and each training session was teaching the girls all the values sports can give,” said John.
“She has faced this disease with courage, strength, honour and compassion; she has been knocked down and she has gotten back up.
“When we were putting her to bed just the other night she said to her mum: ‘When I was told what I had to go through I thought I’m never going to get through this – but you know what Mum – it hasn’t been that bad. I’ve met some amazing people I will remember forever, it’s been ok’.”
