Little Athletics NSW have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 State Relay Championships, scheduled to be held in November. This decision has not been made lightly, but it is in line with the current NSW Government and NSW Department of Health restrictions regarding COVID-19.
The 2019 State Relays attracted approximately 3,500 attendees, including athletes, parents, and spectators. As the current restrictions sit at limiting events to under 500 people, it is not feasible to schedule an event of this size in the near future. Therefore, a decision was reached that Little Athletics NSW could not provide a quality State Relays event that fit under these restrictions. It is also unknown when these restrictions will be lifted or how they may be altered in the future.
Along with this, many centres will not be commencing their seasons until mid-October to mid-November. The new commencement dates would have made it difficult for centres to organise teams.
Little Athletics NSW believes that centres and members will appreciate the early notice of this cancellation. Little Athletics NSW will continue to provide updates about the impacts of COVID-19 and the 2020/21 season, which will be updated here.
Little Athletics NSW’s main priority is assisting our centres in any way possible to get up and running for the 2020/2021 season and provide the best possible Little Athletics experience under these difficult circumstances.
